EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE NEXUS IN NIGERIAN CIVIL SERVICE: A QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

Employee performance is crucial to the survival of any establishment. To enhance performance, there is a need to engage the employee in his work. However, very slight concern has been shown to the nexus between employee engagement and employee performance in the setting of civil service. Therefore, the core drive of this study evaluated the nexus between employee engagement and employee performance in Nigerian Civil Service. Data for the study were gathered via quantitative surveys from 510.employees working in Kwara State Civil Service. The respondents were selected through stratified sampling technique. Out of 510 questionnaires distributed only 371 completed questionnaires, representing 73% response rate, were returned and usable for further analysis. PLS- SEM was utilised to assess the study’s hypothesis of nexus between employee engagement and employee performance. The result of the research reveals a significant nexus between employee engagement and employee performance. Thus, this research effectively offers practical suggestion to the experts on employee engagement and performance. It further gives insights for directors in the civil service on how to improve employee engagement and performance. Built on this finding, it is proposed that an organisation must work to develop and nurture employee engagement so as to enhance employee performance.Downloads
